ERA Conferences with 25% IPKat readers’ discount 

The Academy of European Law (ERA) have informed that their forthcoming autumn conferences will be held solely online due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. They are:

Conferences, webinars 
On September 24, Cleveland Scott York will hold the webinar “Freedom to Operate in the Pharmaceutical Sector”. The participation is free of charge, but registration is required here
The Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) is organizing the 2020 IP Paralegal Conference in the online format, from September 30 to October 2. The registration for the conference is ongoing here
The 3rd “Advanced training on AI and IP”, offered by the University of Strasbourg, will be held online on October 1 to 3, 2020. Registration is open until September 30. 
On October 16, UIC John Marshall Law School is organizing its International IP Practice Seminar. The event, co-organised with WIPO, will cover key developments in international IP law, post-COVID aspects of IP, strategies for PCT filings. 
The EPO will hold online a virtual advanced course on the PCT at the EPO, in four separate sessions, from October 6 to October 27, 2020. Registration is free and it you can register at any time throughout the first three sessions. The final registration deadline is October 22, 2020. 
The EPO is also organizing an online All Matters event series, with three sessions dedicated to various aspects of patent registration. The Search Matters session for patent search professionals is scheduled for October 14-16. The Opposition Matters session for professional representatives is scheduled for October 21-22. The Examination Matters session for professional representatives is scheduled for November 9-11.

The Advocate General Szpunar has now delivered the Opinion in case C-392/12 VG Bild-Kunst. In his Opinion, the AG is citing a research article by our PermaKat, Eleonora Rosati, titled “When Does a Communication to the Public Under EU Copyright Law Need to Be a ‘New Public’?”. 
The UK IPO has launched a Call for Views on Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property. The consultation, open to any interested stakeholder and structured around a number of pre-defined questions, is open until November 30, 2020. 
AIPPI has extended the deadline for submissions for its 2020 Essay Prize until September 15, 2020. If you are an AIPPI member or enrolled in an IP programme (PhD included), you are still on time to share your views on “COVID-19 and its impact on the world of IP” (a monetary prize will be awarded).
