Time flies when you are having fun, they say … That must be even truer when the fun is IP-related. In 2023, in fact, our beloved blog The IPKat will leave its teen years behind and turn … 20!

As our readers know, The IPKat was co-founded by Jeremy Phillips and Ilanah Fhima back in June 2003, and was originally meant as a study aid for the University of London IP students. A neighbour of Jeremy’s designed the original IPKat logo and … the rest is history!
Today, the IPKat pages have been viewed nearly 64 million times, over 16 000 people from all over the world subscribe to The IPKat by email, nearly 18 000 people follow the updates on LinkedIn and over 22 000 accounts follow the Twitter updates.
The IPKat and its contributors have received awards for their reporting on, interpreting of, and helping shape IP laws in several different jurisdictions. According to the Justia rankings, The IPKat is the most popular IP blog of all time.
In anticipation for next year’s important birthday, Hayleigh and I have been editing a collection of contributions on several different topics and authored by IPKat contributors – past and present – and eminent Katfriends. This book will be published by Oxford University Press in spring 2023.
That’s not all though.
On 8 June 2023, we will be also holding a big party in central London to celebrate the publication of the book and the two decades of activity of the blog.
Further details will follow in due course.
In the meantime, save the date and see you in London in a few months!
