Too busy with your summer plans and suffering from the IP FOMO? Here are some summer news items to keep you in the loop.

New GuestKat

The IPKat is delighted to welcome Alessandro Cerri as a new GuestKat for the next six months.

Alessandro works as in-house legal counsel in the global IP team of Warner Bros. Discovery, based in the UK. He primarily focuses on trade marks as part of his current position but has been involved in matters spanning across a range of soft-IP rights (particularly, copyright and design right disputes) in previous roles, whilst in private practice. Despite being a GuestKat, Alessandro is actually more of a dog person in real life (dont tell Merpel!) and somewhat of a sausage-dog enthusiast. More information about Alessandro can be found here.

Conference & call for papers

TILTing Perspectives Conference, Looking back, moving forward: Re-assessing technology regulation in digitalised ąworlds, will take place on July 8, 9, 10, 2024 at Tilburg University and will coincide with TILTs 30th anniversary celebrations.

The agenda includes reflections on the following topics:

  • Governance: the ways in which different forms of technology regulation are being designed, criticised, promoted, exported, and rejected raise questions of standing and agency with regard to technology as a power, as well as on regulatory power;
  • Human rights & technology: perceived challenges to a broad range of established fundamental rights raise questions about the suitability of old and new legal frameworks such as treaty law and national constitutions, the proposed EU AI Act, Data Protection, and Cyber and Data Security regulation — not least in situations of warfare;
  • Competition & innovation: regulatory challenges posed by ongoing social and technological transformations in key sectors such as energy, finance and healthcare, as well as the challenges of (finding new ways of) regulating competition and intellectual property rights in an increasingly digitalised world.

More information about the conference and call for papers can be found here.
