Tom Mitcheson KC

The AmeriKat was warmed in the cold of her Friday morning to learn of the news that Tom Mitcheson KC (Three New Square) has been appointed as Deputy High Court Judge.  Litigators in the Patents Court can now add Tom to the list of potential judges who may hear your patent case, as well as a number of other IP rich cases in the UK.

The announcement this morning reads:

The Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Baroness Carr Of Walton-on-the-Hill, has appointed three Deputy High Court Judges, under section 9(4) of the Senior Courts Act 1981, for a single fixed six-year term. The appointments run from 18 January 2024 to 17 January 2030.

Tom is also a member of the ChIPs Network where he was part of the group who worked to secure the changes to the Patents Court Guide to encourage the use of junior advocates with the goal or improving and increasing diversity in the senior ranks of the patent profession.   For the work, the group was listed as one of the Top 50 Most Influential People in IP 2023 by Managing IP

Tom joins Charlotte May KC (who was appointed in September 2021), Ian Karet (Linklaters), Michael Tappin KC (appointed in September 2021), Pat Treacy (formerly of Bristows), Iain Purvis KC (11 South Square), David Stone (Allen & Overy), Daniel Alexander KC and Campbell Forsyth (Mischon de Reya) to the roster of IP barristers and solicitors who may hear your next IP case in London.

On behalf of the IPKat team, congratulations Tom – we look forward to scrutinizing your judgments very soon!
